The Pikes Peak Library District opened a Briargate branch on Aug. 29, and it’s the first new library to open in the county in 16 years. The library is located at 9475 Briar Village Point, near the intersection of Briargate Parkway and Chapel Hills Drive.The branch will serve the Briargate community, as well as residents from Falcon and Gleneagle. It will also be the city’s first library to offer free wireless Internet access.The Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado donated $50,000 for the new library’s computer center, which will house 20 computers for children, teens and adults. Laptops will be available for use in the library as well. The laptops are not expected to be available on loan until mid-September.The Briargate branch will cost about $300,000 annually to operate, and will be funded with the district’s existing revenue. The branch will employ 17 full and part-time employees.A grand opening celebration is scheduled for Oct. 15.Briargate Branch Hours:Monday – Thursday: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.Friday and Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.Sunday: 1 to 5 p.m.For more information, contact Pikes Peak Library District at (719) 531-6333.
