Black Forest AARP chapter wins cup

The Black Forest AARP Chapter No. 1100 was awarded the 2010 Colorado Chapter Cup and was designated the Platinum AARP Chapter in Colorado during an annual awards ceremony in Denver last month. The designation as the best AARP chapter in Colorado for community service for the year came with a grant of $250. Waldo Pendleton, Black Forest chapter president, accepted the trophy from Roberto Rey, AARP Colorado associate director for multi-cultural community outreach. This is the second year in a row the Black Forest chapter has been selected as the top AARP chapter in the state.Chuck and Edna Eaton were presented the 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award for their many years of active support to community service in the Black Forest area.The Black Forest Lutheran Church was recognized and given the 2010 AARP Community Partner Award for their service to the Black Forest community. Lavonne Hidy accepted the award on behalf of the Black Forest Lutheran Church.Chapter No. 1100 won two checks from a drawing from the Create the Good Chapter Challenge initiative designed to foster good works in local Colorado communities. One project was the “Fight Fraud – Shred Instead” document shredding project held in May, and the other was the “Black Forest Cares Food Drive” held in September.The Black Forest AARP Chapter is open to everyone. Their motto is “To Serve, Not to Be Served.” Persons interested in being associated with this chapter and its community service work should contact the chapter president, Waldo Pendleton at 598-2504.
