Beginning in March, residents of the eastern plains will be able to purchase about $60 in food items for about $30. Grace Community Church in Falcon is now a host site for Angel Food Ministries.Angel Food Ministries is a nonprofit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States. The program began in 1994 with 34 families in Monroe, Ga., and since has grown to serve thousands of families in 35 states. The program is open to everyone, and there are no applications to complete or qualifications to meet. Each month, a different menu is offered combining fresh, frozen and prepared foods, which are sold in units. One unit of food helps feed a family of four for about a week and an individual for about a month. The food is of high quality – what one would find in the grocery store, said the coordinator for the Grace Community program.Specialty boxes called bonus foods, such as steaks, chicken and pork, are offered as well. There is no limit to the number of units or bonus foods an individual can purchase.Grace Community Church will take orders March 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and March 9, from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Distribution will take place at the church March 29, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Groceries must be paid for at the time of the order. GCC accepts cash, checks or money orders.Angel Foods Ministries also participates in the U.S. Food Stamp program, using the Off-Line Food Stamp Voucher system.Grace Community is located at 7368 McLaughlin road (next to Frankies Too).
