Curves is launching a year-round community service program designed to help Falcon, Peyton, Black Forest and Calhan area residents. Mel Sharpe, an instructor at Curves in Falcon, said, “It’s all about helping those in our community, and this year we are also enlisting the support of other local businesses.”The program kicks off with a food drive that runs from Feb. 27 to March 31. Falcon Curves members decorated food collection boxes and placed them in stores throughout the area. They are asking people to donate non-perishable food items. Curves is encouraging 4-H, scout troops and other community groups to also get involved. All donations will go directly to the Calhan Food Bank.In May, Curves will conduct a clothing exchange, with donations going to TESSA, a Springs program for victims of domestic violence.During July, Curves will ship military care packages to local military members stationed overseas. The Rock Island Trail Clean-Up campaign takes place in September, and another food drive begins in November, followed by a toy drive in December.
