County commissioners authorized the county’s department of transportation to implement truck routes as a part of the “Major Transportation Corridors” plan.”Eliminating thru truck traffic in the Black Forest will make the roads in the Forest safer for the local residents,” said Commissioner Wayne Williams. The county implemented the planned truck routes beginning in the Black Forest region. Tractor-trailers, long-haul, oversized and overweight trucks that use roads in unincorporated El Paso County will now have to stick to truck routes like Highway 83. The opening of Powers Boulevard to Highway 83 allows the county to move truck traffic to Highway 83.Truck routes will not prohibit truckers from traveling into Black Forest to reach a specific destination.
