In a recent edition of the Senior News to Use from the Fountain Valley Senior Center, an article incorrectly stated, “The state of Colorado is again able to fund this property tax reduction program.” The program referred to was the Senior Homestead Exemption Act.The state has not been able to fund the program for the past two years and this year is no exception. A notice stating that the program could not be funded was mailed out in each property tax statement mailed from the El Paso County Treasurer’s Office. The Senior Homestead Exemption Act grants an exemption (reduction) up to one-half of the first $200,000 in market value from property taxes for a qualifying residential owner. The program still exists, and the assessor’s office keeps up-to-date records on all those who have qualified and continue to qualify. However, according to the state of Colorado, there is no money to fund the program.
No funding yet for the senior property tax reduction
