Urgent care center: small-town care with modern technology
By Deb Risden
When longtime Falcon physician Dr. Kenneth Raper retired in February, Falcon Urgent Care reopened May 1 as Falcon Ridge Urgent Care under the ownership of Dr. Cassanda Davis.
Davis has modernized the practice, updating its operations and equipment while preserving the community focused approach that has served Falcon residents for many years.
“One of the biggest changes is the transition from paper charts to electronic medical records,” Davis said. Patients can complete registration forms before arriving, reducing check-in time. The new system also allows providers to communicate through a secure patient portal, email test results and send work or school excuse notes electronically.
The clinic has upgraded to a digital X-ray system that produces higher-quality images while exposing patients to less radiation.
Davis said telemedicine appointments are expected to be available by winter, allowing patients with illnesses such as influenza to receive care from home rather than spending time in a waiting room.
Falcon Ridge Urgent Care treats a variety of non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, including fractures, sprains, cuts requiring stitches and common infections. The clinic also offers on-site laboratory testing, IV hydration therapy, school and sports physicals, and will begin offering Department of Transportation physicals in July.
Patients experiencing medical emergencies, such as chest pain, stroke symptoms or severe trauma, should seek care at a hospital emergency department.
Davis brings more than 16 years of urgent care experience to Falcon. After completing emergency medicine training and an internal medicine residency, she practiced urgent care medicine for five years in the Denver metropolitan area and 11 years in Las Vegas, among other locations. Her family returned to Colorado in 2020.
Originally from western Kansas, Davis said Falcon reminds her of the close-knit communities where she grew up.
“I like the small-town environment,” Davis said. “It’s modern medicine with a small-town feel.”
She said she also enjoys serving Falcon’s large military community. Her husband served in the military for 22 years and now flies for a commercial airline. The couple has three children.
The clinic accepts most major insurance plans, including TRICARE.
Children make up about one-third of the clinic’s patients. During the summer months, Davis said the clinic commonly sees swimmer’s ear, broken bones, playground injuries, sports injuries and students needing school physicals. Young patients can choose a toy from a treasure chest following their visit.
As summer activities increase, Davis encourages everyone to wear helmets while riding bicycles, e-bikes, scooters and other wheeled vehicles to help prevent serious injuries.
Falcon Ridge Urgent Care is staffed by Davis and two full-time physician assistants, with plans to add nurse practitioners on an as-needed basis later this year.
The clinic does not schedule appointments but welcomes patients on a walk-in basis. Pre-registration is available at falconridgeurgentcare.com. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The clinic is closed Sundays and major holidays.
