The New Falcon Herald has had many inquiries related to a planned roundabout at US 24 and Judge Orr and the US 24 widening project.
Amber Shipley, the public information officer for the Colorado Department of Transportation Region 2, which covers Falcon, replied to questions from The New Falcon Herald related to two current projects.
In an email dated Feb. 24, she wrote the following: “Two projects are in the final planning stages on US Highway 24 near Falcon — the US 24 Widening Project Garrett Road to Woodmen Road (spring 2027 to summer 2029) and the US 24 and Judge Orr Road Intersection Improvements Project (fall 2027 to fall 2029). Both projects are part of CDOT’s US 24 Planning and Environmental Linkages Study aimed at reducing congestion, improving operational performance and enhancing safety in the fast-growing section of El Paso County.
The US 24 Widening Project from Garrett Road to Woodmen Road will add one new lane in each direction of US 24 and will add frontage and backage roads to provide better, safer access to US 24. Our Right of Way department has been working with landowners along US 24 to acquire needed land for the expansion of the roadway. The US 24 and Judge Orr Road Intersection will implement a roundabout at the intersection and change access to and from Blue Gill Road. The safety benefits of a roundabout and proximity to Meadow Lake Airport were factors considered.
