FIGHT FRAUD – SHRED INSTEAD
Submitted by Stan Beckner
The annual FREE shredding event sponsored by the Black Forest Chapter 1100 of AARP was a huge success. The July 19 event took place at the Black Forest Lutheran Church and gave citizens the opportunity to safely destroy personal papers and documents. A total of 168 cars from 20 different ZIP codes took advantage of the opportunity. The shredded paper filled one large shredding truck and part of another. Donations were not solicited but about 447 pounds of food and $550 were dropped off for Chapter 1100 and Tri-Lakes Cares.
The shredding project leader, Jim Belk, thanks the 35 volunteers who made the shredding event a success. Volunteers from Chapter 1100 (23), family members (three), members/spouses of the Women Warriors of the Woods (eight) and one from Tri-Lakes Cares of Monument supported the event by helping set up for the event, working the various areas and breaking down and cleaning up afterward.

A special thank you to Black Forest Pies and Grinders for giving Chapter 1100 a special deal on the pizzas that the volunteers enjoyed for lunch after the event. Please be sure to patronize Pies and Grinders and all of our newsletter advertisers, and mention your AARP membership
Thank you also to Mark Fetterhoff of AARP ElderWatch for arranging for the two Iron Mountain shred trucks.
Last, a big thanks to the generosity of the people who attended the shred event.
