The New Falcon Herald has received complaints about numerous patched areas on new pavement on Meridian Road, between Woodmen Road and Londonderry Drive. Some of those patched areas extend all the way across the road.
Mike McDonald, operations manager at Kiewit Corp., the contractor for the road, said in an email that the project was designed, managed and paid for by El Paso County — and all questions should be addressed to the county.
Amy Jo Fields from the El Paso County Communications Department, had this to say in response to the issues. “There are patches in the recently paved sections of Meridian Road because the contractor noticed the material did not stick as designed. The contractor cut out the asphalt to remove the material and the existing crack, compacted the subgrade and replaced it. The work on that road is complete.”
As a follow-up to the number of patches used to repair the paved roads, the NFH contacted the county to address any problems with the design and materials used for the project; as of deadline the county had not responded.
