Emu wanders onto a busy bridge roadIn July, drivers were stuck on Route 19ís Howey Bridge in Tavares, Florida, after a lone emu, a large Australian bird, wandered onto the bridge and blocked traffic. When two drivers approached the bird, they saw that it had a sock on its head, and it also had a leash. The emu was sitting in the middle of the road and started to run when one of the drivers attempted to take off the sock. As cars were stalled for about an hour, the police and Lake County Animal Control showed up and finally caught the bird. The emu was returned to its owner. Who has an emu for a pet?Defining drunk drivingIn July in Vero Beach, Florida, a woman called law enforcement from a McDonaldís drive-thru after a man behind her hit her car multiple times, according to the Indian River County Sheriffís Office. When deputies arrived, the woman told the officers that Earle Gustavas Stevens, age 69, ran into her rear bumper numerous times. When deputies asked for his driverís license, he struggled to remove his wallet from his back pants pocket. Then, Stevens handed the deputy a Florida ID card and said he had never had a driverís license. Deputies then observed an open bottle of liquor in a brown paper bag sitting next to Stevens, and they could smell alcohol on his breath.ìIím feeling pretty good,î Stevens told deputies. He also volunteered that the liquor in the bag was a bottle of Jim Beam. However, Stevens said he never drank while driving. Instead, he only drank when the car was at stop signs and red lights.
This is why they call it Flori-duh!
