The highlight of the May AARP Chapter 1100 meeting was an extensive and†informative presentation on 9-1-1 by Daryl Branson, executive director of the Colorado 9-1-1 Resource Center. †In addition to answering many questions about 9-1-1, Branson†discussed how 9-1-1 calls from cellular phones could be routed to the wrong call center,†resulting in a delayed response from emergency services.†He also noted that cellular calls†might not have the source location information inherent in landline calls.†The major†advantage for cellular calls is that they will process 9-1-1 calls, even if the user is out of†minutes (so long as the battery on the cell phone has a charge).† † † †Branson also discussed the disadvantages of Voice-over-Internet-Protocol phone†services and the fact that Text-to-911 services are not widely available in Colorado yet.†He†concluded that landline phones almost always connect to a 9-1-1 operator, even if the power†is out at the user location, but that cordless handsets may not work if the power is out.†A†prime advantage of landline systems is that the location of the caller is almost always†included in calls from a landline.† † † † †The chapter business meeting focused on the upcoming FREE Shredding event on 13†June and the current D-Day Commemorative Quilt fundraising project.†Information on these†community service projects can be found at†http://aarpchapter1100blackforest.weebly.com†or†by calling the chapter president at 749.9227FIGHT FRAUD ñ SHRED INSTEADStart collecting your outdated financial documents and bring them to the FREE SHREDDING event and food drive on Saturday, June13, at the Black Forest Lutheran Church parking lot at 12455 Black Forest Road in Black Forest.
