The Pikes Peak Library Districtís 12 libraries, including the High Plains Prairie Library in Falcon, offer space for artists throughout the county to show their wares.Carol Harnish manages the library art galleries, and said they like to feature artists who have never been in an art show. ìWe are not too terribly picky, but we do look for quality,î Harnish said. ìWe have pretty wide parameters as far as to what people may submit. Mostly, we are here for people who have never had an art show. Sometimes, we do say no. It has to be family friendly.îThirty-six artists showed their work this past year at the 12 libraries in three different shows. ìHopefully, next year we will have four shows,î Harnish said. ìWe are thinking of next March or April to open submissions again.î Each show runs for one month, and the committee chooses the library location, she said. They require five pieces for showing, and all art work must be matted and framed.Harnish said artists interested in participating should check the PPLD website for open dates and watch their local libraries for a call for submission. ìUsually we put something in the monthly fliers about the art shows, if people are interested in submitting work,î she said.Artists can call Harnish at 719-531-6333, ext. 2332 or email her at charnish@ppld.org for more information.
