Monkey Business

Speaking of beesJason Gray wrote a story about the dwindling bee population. Not everyone appreciates bees, but this story might suggest that bees arenít our enemy.Margaret Bell kept bees in the place she called home, which was 7 miles from Ludlow, Shropshire, England. She died in 1994. Shortly after her funeral, onlookers saw hundreds of bees buzzing about the street opposite of her home. The bees stayed for an hour, hovering over the home. This story is about the gentle side of bees. Maybe think twice before you begin swatting them.BustedWhen Jim Wilsonís father died in Natal, South Africa, in April 1967, both Jim, who lived in England, and his sister, Muriel, who lived in Holland, were informed. Muriel contacted her husband who was on business in Portugal, and he flew to South Africa right away. Changing planes at Las Palmas airport in the Canary Islands, the husband bought a postcard showing vacationers on Margate Beach, Natal, and sent it to Muriel. Thatís when she noticed the picture postcard showed her father walking up the beach. Stupid lawsuitWhen Karl Kemp, owner of Karl Kemp Antiques on Madison Avenue in New York City, grew tired of the homeless people who lived outside his shop for more than two years, he sued them. Kempís lawsuit asked for $1 million in the lawsuit and a court order keeping them 100 feet away from the shop door. One might think that if a homeless person had $1 million to spring, he or she wouldnít be on the streets begging for food and water. The Coalition for the Homeless called the lawsuit ìmean spiritedî and even Kempís lawyers acknowledged that the homeless people werenít breaking any laws.
