Hundreds of firefighters, emergency medical service and hospital personnel from the Pikes Peak region gathered in January to celebrate their contributions to the community. The annual Pikes Peak Fire Chiefs Forum dinner featured a live auction and a silent auction, and the event raised almost $9,500. Proceeds were donated to the National EMS Memorial Service. In 2009, Colorado Springs was selected as the permanent home of the memorial, which honors air and ground EMS providers who died in the line of duty. Since 1992, 601 providers have been killed; 12 are from Colorado. In March, Shane Gattis, chairman of the Pikes Peak Fire Chiefs Forum, presented the check to Ted Sayer, president of the National EMS Memorial Service Board of Directors.
