The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced that Kal Athannassov, a 17-year-old student from Vista Ridge High School in Falcon, was awarded ìBest of Showî Colorado at the 2012 Junior Duck Stamp Contest in Denver. Athannassovís art was selected from hundreds of entries from across Colorado. His acrylic paint rendition of a Black-bellied Whistling Duck, titled “Serenity,î will represent Colorado at the National Junior Duck Stamp competition in Washington, D.C. at the end of April.The entries from Colorado were judged by a panel of waterfowl enthusiasts, biologists and professional wildlife artists.This yearís award ceremony will take place May 12 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Arvada Center for Performing Arts.
