At the annual awards banquet at La Foret in Black Forest, Colo., April 24, the Educational Opportunity Foundation of the Black Forest awarded a $1,500 scholarship to Falcon High School senior Julia Smith.ìThis means a lot for me because awhile ago my mom got laid off from her job and we’ve struggled to pay for college,î Smith said. ìThis definitely helps since I’m going to an out-of-state college. It helps start me off.îSmith, who will attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln this fall, was one of nine recipients receiving $1,500 each. The others:
- Landon Abernathy from Lewis Palmer will attend the University of Colorado at Boulder.
- Emily Clark from Pine Creek High School will attend the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
- Megan Garrison from Rampart High School is also going to CU.
- Mary Kumbera has been home-schooled, and sheíll attend Regent University.
- Lydia Lonsky has also been home-schooled and sheíll be attending Pikes Peak Community College.
- Alissa Sottosanti from Pine Creek High School is also going to PPCC.
- Tessa Tews also from Pine Creek High School will be attending Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn.
- Caroline Townsend from Discovery Canyon will attend Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
