Sept. 11 marked the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and the World Trade Center in New York City. Citizens across the nation were encouraged to perform good deeds or engage in charitable services during the week of 9/11 to rekindle the spirit of unity, service and compassion shared by many in the aftermath of the attacks.The Black Forest AARP chapter, in conjunction with local merchants, sponsored a food drive Sept. 9-19 to honor those lost to terrorism and to aid in the national Drive to End Hunger. The food drive collected 156.2 pounds of non-perishable food and $269.94. Food and monetary donations were given to Black Forest Cares Food Pantry.The merchants who partnered with the AARP chapter for this project: Black Forest Fire and Rescue, Black Forest Jeweler, Nizhomi Health Center, Black Forest Financial & Accounting Services LLC, R & R Coffee & Cafe, Rockin’ B Feed and Supply, Paws N Tails Hydrotherapy Pool, Black Forest Pies and Grinders and the Black Forest Postal Service and Convenience Store.
