On Memorial Day, members of American Legion Dane R. Balcon Post 2008 conducted the second Memorial Day ceremony at Balcon Park in Woodmen Hills. Post 2008 Commander Bob Levesque spoke about the importance of Memorial Day to honor the memory of those who gave their lives in the service of our country. He said, “On this Memorial Day let us pledge ourselves anew to patriotic service.” J. D. Slavens of American Legion Thomas Fowler Post 169 in Wichita Falls, Texas, performed “Taps” and the flag was raised. Post 2008 member Howard Richardson II led in singing the “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Woodmen Hills Recreation Center West hosted coffee and donuts for the attendees after the ceremony.
