The National Exchange Club Foundation was established in 1979 to help advance the National Exchange Club’s Program of Service, and its national project, the prevention of child abuse. At the National Exchange Club’s convention in Jacksonville, Fla., a live auction was held. Among the items auctioned was a quilt made by Leonore Misner of the Exchange Club of Falcon.Leonore spent more than 300 hours making the quilt that had a theme of Americanism. The quilt contained a combination of traditional and historical pictorial blocks – the flag raising at Iwo Jima; the strife of the Vietnam War; a collage of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and the Star of David reflecting the liberation of Jews at the end of WWII. Other pictorial points of interest are Mt. Rushmore; the cemetery at Normandy; the Statue of Liberty and the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C. The quilt was auctioned off for $3,000.At the July 21 meeting of the Exchange Club of Falcon, the Victim Assistance Program presented information about their investigative unit, which is a part of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.In the memory of her daughter Donna, Lark Jacobs donated money to the Child Abuse Prevention Committee (CAP) of the Exchange Club. With that donation, Lark, along with Ursula Miller, CAP chairwoman; went shopping for children’s clothing. The items were given to Susan ‘Sam’ McCaffrey-Aker, Victim Assistance program coordinator to use for children whose clothes are taken as evidence.A golf tournament was held June 25. The Exchange Club of Falcon had obtained the sponsorship of 20 companies and registered 84 golfers for their first Child Abuse Prevention Charity Golf Tournament. After finishing the course, the golfers met at the clubhouse at Antlers Creek Golf Course to enjoy lunch and trophies and raffle prizes.Profits from the golf tournament exceeded the amount of money needed for the coming year.
