Summertime often includes visiting family or friends across country or across town, cooling off at the movie theater or shopping mall, or enjoying the warmer weather at an outdoor concert or favorite pool. As we creep into August, we soon witness the onset of shortened days, cooler weather and the final family vacation before the start of the school year for area students.Falcon School District 49 spent the summer preparing for the return of area students in the fall. Over the summer, the D 49 Board of Education selected a superintendent to help lead the district. Read Natalie Gowen’s profile about Superintendent Bradley Schoeppey. Natalie also profiles the newly selected principal at Meridian Ranch Elementary School. With two new leaders entering the district, the future of two more have yet to be determined. The results from challenges to a petition to oust two school board members have been determined. Did the recall effort produce enough valid signatures to bring the issue to a vote? Also, over the summer, D 49 school buildings under went structural improvements. Paula Jones reports about the health hazard that prompted the work.With fall right around the corner, an increase in illness is often a sign of the new season. Kathleen Wallace reports on a new prescription discount card offered in El Paso County. She also writes about Veterans Administration health care benefits to local military.
