LDS church breaks ground on Falcon meetinghouse

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints broke ground on a new meetinghouse on April 11. Located at Eastonville Road and Stapleton Road, the 16,000-square-foot building will be completed by January 2010.Bruce Dwelle, bishop of the Falcon congregation, said he chose the building site three years ago. “As I walked up to the knoll, I could just picture a church on it,” he said. The meetinghouse is one of the largest buildings the LDS church constructs and will eventually house multiple congregations. Dwelle said the building will be used for Sunday worship services and weekly activities. “Our typical service includes men, women and youth speaking from the pulpit, singing hymns, offering prayers, participating in the sacrament and attending Sunday school classes,” Dwelle said. The building will also host scouting programs and youth activities, he said. “This provides the youth of the church a time for socializing, gospel study, preparing for their future, giving service, having fun and applying gospel principles,” Dwelle said.Treesje Wallin and her family have lived in Falcon for eight years. When they first moved to Falcon, the LDS congregation met in Calhan. They currently meet in the Black Forest, and she said her family regularly attends both the Sunday meetings and the youth activities during the week.”It’s huge to have our own building,” Wallin said. “To have a church closer is very exciting.”
