Letters to the Editor

Thank you for supporting our son

Dear Editor,In March 2008, our son received a heart transplant at the Children’s Hospital in Denver. This was his second heart transplant and one of 22 surgical procedures he’s undergone in his 9 short years. Garrett was born with a congenital heart defect in 1999, and has fought and beaten death his entire life.Garrett’s journey has been followed by many folks who have gone out of their way to help our family. And of the many gifts we’ve received, some of the most memorable and inspiring included a couple of fundraising benefits planned for Garrett last fall. One event, dubbed the “Heart of a Champion Ranch Rodeo,” brought a lot of folks together for the love of one little boy. The second included watching horse races at Dos Suertes Race Track, where lots of strangers got together for a child they never met.Time and space won’t allow us to thank everyone involved, or to fully describe the depth of our appreciation for the gifts of kindness and friendship that will forever humble us. I’m also sure we’ll unintentionally forget someone. We knew we’d have a hard time identifying everyone who have reached out to us, but wanted to use this forum to say “thank you.” However, we wish to single out a few folks who put so much of themselves into creating a dream for our little boy. Randy Toler and Lindsey Traxler of Agritech Hay Company and General and Mrs. Sam Leffler held the vision behind the ranch rodeo event. So many others were involved, including Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Kahl of Triple X Rodeo Company, Mr. Royce Sisk, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Martin, and Mr. Bob Harrison and the Latigo Trails folks for the incredible venue. Mr. and Mrs. Francisco Dominguez, Ms. Carol Strickland and Mr. and Mrs. Billy Jack Barrett sponsored the horseracing event. Thank you also to Calhan Raceway. In a world filled with news accounts of so much hatred and tragedy, it is truly heartening to be part of a community who cares so deeply. We share our story in an effort to bring Glory to God for His miracles, and to bring attention to the need for pediatric organ donation. To everyone involved, for all the prayers, donations and gifts of love and friendship, we thank you. You’ll always be welcome at our campfire.God Bless you all,J.D. and Kathy RossFalcon
