Although this Road-e-o has never had a bull riding event or a barrel race, it is still the top transportation Road-e-o in the state of Colorado. You are probably saying, “Where’s the Beef?” The beef, in this case, are the school buses – large and small, which are used to perform exact driving skills. The cowboys are professional school bus drivers from all over the state. Like gunslingers, they are brought in by their school districts to prove they are the “Best of the Best.”This competition is held once a year by the Colorado Department of Education to determine who will qualify to go to the International Bus Road-e-o competition. Don’t show up if you have less than nerves of steel, superior driving skills and a mind ready to answer some of the toughest transportation questions prepared to eliminate the weak. Road-e-o competition is serious business for these professional drivers and drivers’ aides as they square off to showcase their driving skills and bus knowledge against the best in the state.Congratulations to driver Zoe Horak and paraprofessional Lynnea Brown, representing Falcon School District 49, for finishing in first place in the Special Needs Division. These two transportation professionals are now preparing to compete against the best school transportation employees of the U.S. and Canada in Louisville, Ky., later this year. Why are these Road-e-os so important to the state? The answer: “Better drivers make safer drivers to transport our children.” Does it work? You bet it does! Falcon School District’s Transportation Department had NO accidents with other vehicles in the 2005/2006 school year. This is unheard of in the transportation industry. So, the next time you wonder, “Where’s the Beef?” rest assured that all our professional school bus drivers are safely transporting your children.Congratulations also go out to Falcon D 49 transportation supervisor Cindy Hardin for winning top “Transportation Administrator of the Year” and mechanic Doug Eacker for winning first place in the CDE outside inspection station. We proudly are this community’s “Driving Force to Education.”
