2024 Teen Academy now accepting applications!

Due by May 20; space is limited.

The Colorado Springs Police Department and El Paso County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer units are hosting the ninth annual Pikes Peak Regional Law Enforcement Teen Academy in June. The Teen Academy provides young adults with an opportunity to learn about the operations of regional law enforcement agencies in El Paso County. The Colorado Springs Police Department and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office are the host agencies for this four-day class held over two weeks at local high schools.

In 2023, we had over 80 local teens attend when we expanded from one week to two weeks. In 2024, we will continue to run two separate academies on both east and west side high schools so we can accommodate more local teens.

  • June 10-13, 2024, at Vista Ridge High School
  • June 17-20, 2024, at Cheyenne Mountain High School

Some of the courses will include Patrol Operations, TEU/SWAT, K-9, Mounted Unit, Explosives Unit, Criminal Investigations (Narcotics, Investigations, Crime Lab), drone presentation, search and rescue and negotiator training. Attendees will participate in activities and scenarios to expose them to a variety of law enforcement topics.

Interested applicants must be between the ages of 13-18 (entering high school fall 2024 to recent graduates 2024) to attend the class. Applicants must be El Paso County residents and currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a school in El Paso County.

Please note an “Academy Participation Liability Waiver, Indemnification Agreement, and General Rules” must be signed for admission. Participation in physical activities, and the seat belt convincer are optional.

If you have questions about the Teen Academy, please speak with your local El Paso County Sheriff or CSPD SRO, or email us at cspd-teenacademy.smb@coloradosprings.gov for additional information.

We will take applicants on a first come basis at the desired location (Vista Ridge High School or Cheyenne Mountain High School).
