Youth of the month awards

Joseph Bauer, past president of the Exchange Club of Falcon, presented Nicholas Mullen the Youth of the Month award for March. Mullen is second in a class of 53 at Ellicott High School and has held a grade point average of 4.15. He has been president of the National Honor Society and served as the 2010 class president. Mullen has also participated in the student council, Future Business Leaders of America and the track and cross country team. Mullen works at Loriís Hometown CafÈ and still has time for volunteer work: the Haiti fundraiser, Drive Smart, Red Ribbon Week and he volunteers as a cross guard. Mullen has been honored as the Masonic Outstanding Junior and is also on the superintendentís honor roll. He wants to attend the University of Denver.Tiffany Anne Baumann, Miami-Yoder High School student, earned the Exchange Clubís Youth of the Month award for April, as well as the A.C.E. Award. Baumann holds office in several clubs: Leo Club, National Honor Society and Matchwits. Besides playing on the varsity volleyball team and having a Black Belt in karate, she has clocked more than 800 hours in community service. Baumann has worked in concessions, chaired the junior-senior prom and tutored fellow students. She works as a part-time custodial substitute; and, in addition to her clubs and sports activities, maintains a 4.0 GPA. While she has achieved so much, Bauman has experienced difficult family circumstances. In recognition of her ability to overcome these hardships, the Exchange Club has awarded her the A.C.E. award (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) that also provides a financial scholarship. An aspiring teacher, Baumann wants to attend Colorado State University.
