The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 72 members provide a program called Young Eagles, for youth age 8 to 17. The chapter holds rallies, giving free rides to the participants. Sandy Martin, president of the EAA and coordinator of the rallies, said they hold them in March, April, May, August, September and October. ìThere is so much going on, a lot of air shows the pilots go to, so we take a break in June and July,î Martin said.Youth and parents interested in the rallies can sign up on the EAA chapter 72 website, under the Young Eagles section. The website is http://eaa72.org.Martin said the Aviation Education Foundation of Colorado hosts an aviation education foundation camp. ìIt’s ground school, free for teens; and it starts back up in September,î she said. Interested students can visit http://AEFCO.org and download the application for the pilot preparation course.The students present at the media and officials day have all gone through the class, Martin said. ìSome have become pilots, some have taken the FAA pilot knowledge test, and some are about to take it,î she said.
