Falcon High SchoolIn the first game Aug. 30, the Falcons had a decisive victory over Widefield ñ 38-0. The player of the game, senior Devon Martinez, led the way by dominating the offensive line, assisting with four touchdowns. The star running back, senior Kalen Ballage, ran 18 times for 231 yards and a TD, also adding a 30-yard TD reception from junior quarterback Austin WorbingtonOn Sept. 5, the Falcons won 17-7 in a defensive battle against Pueblo South on Puebloís turf. Junior Wyatt Arberg led the defense, with nine tackles, including three sacks. Ballage intercepted Puebloís quarterback and ran in for a touchdown; he also ran for 154 yards and added another TD to the score.On Sept. 12, the Falcons played George Washington High School in Denver. The game was an early blowout; the team scored 27 points in the first quarter and 21 in the second for a 54-0 rout. Ballage scored three times, and senior Cameron Regennitter added two rushing touchdowns to lead the way offensively.The team returned home for its homecoming game Sept. 20 against Rampart, and didnít disappoint the crowd, with another decisive 58-32 win. Falcon junior Josiah Hall ran a 76-yard touchdown on the teamís first possession.Ballage dominated the game, with 329 yards and four touchdowns.Perhaps it was homecoming that attracted a big crowd, but people were tailgating and barbecuing like this was a pro or college game. Alumni and others filled the stadium, and there were people standing outside the fence watching the game. It appears that Falcon High School football has a slew of fans!Vista RidgeThe Vista Ridge Wolves played their first game of the season Aug. 23 against a tough opponent, the Montrose Indians. The Wolves tried to keep up offensively, but the scores didnít; resulting in a 47-22 defeat. With a half-time score of 31-14, the Wolves were not able to catch up. Despite throwing for 274 yards and running for a touchdown, sophomore quarterback Elway Tubbs threw three interceptions. Senior Jaquan Overbay jazzed up the Wolves night with a 70-yard kickoff touchdown.In their first home game Sept. 6, Vista Ridge won their game against Palmer Ridge, by 40-19. The team scored early and often. Tubbs led the way, throwing for 212 yards with four touchdowns, and rushing in for a score as well. Junior Tyrique Armstrong caught three touchdowns and ran for 136 yards. Senior Dedrick Lee ran for 146 yards and a touchdown.The Wolves took the momentum from their win against Palmer Ridge to Cheyenne Mountain on Sept. 14 for a 28-13 victory. Scoring 14 first-quarter points, the players didnít look back. Tubbs threw for 355 yards and two touchdowns. Overbay caught four passes for 123 yards and a touchdown, and Lee had 144 yards and a touchdown.Vista Ridge lost a Sept. 20 road game to Pine Creek in its first league game, 42-7. Struggling early, they allowed 14 points in each of the first three quarters. Sand CreekSand Creek began the season Aug. 30 with a 24-10 victory over Lewis-Palmer. The Scorpions started off slow, trailing 10-6 at half-time, but coach Rod Baker must have fired up the troops; they scored 18 second-half points for the comeback victory. Senior quarterback Michael DeCarmo led the charge with 165 yards passing ñ throwing for one score ñ and rushing for 168 yards and a touchdown. Junior Daniel Quin contributed big with 120 yards rushing and a touchdown.In game two Sept. 6, the boys traveled to Widefield for a rather easy 31-0 win. Senior Pedro Diaz forced a fumble and added an interception to help preserve the shutout. Offensively, DeCarmo threw for 124 yards and two touchdowns to senior Jordan Preston, and added 180 yards on the ground and punched it in to score one himself.The Scorpions returned home Sept. 13 for an offensive rout against Sierra, winning the game 68-26. DeCarmo threw for 199 yards and three scores, two of the touchdowns going to Preston. Running back Quin added 144 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Defensively, junior Jeremy Jacquess led the team, with 16 tackles and one interception.On Sept. 20, Sand Creek traveled to Liberty for another shutout victory 35-0. Most of the scoring was done in the second quarter, with 27 points. The offense was led by DeCarmoís four rushing touchdowns and one passing score that went 75 yards to Senior Tyler Peterson.
