Woolly Works Farm hosts children’s event

On March 20, Woolly Works Farm in Latigo Trails hosted an event for special education children from the Fountain-Fort Carson School District. The children’s teacher, Cary Sprinkle, originally planned to bring 25 students to the farm, but the guest list soon grew to more than 50 students and 25 parents, said Edie Fisher, the farm’s owner.”We had so many people that we rented a port-a-potty,” Fisher said. The event grew from a chance encounter between Fisher and Sprinkle at a local craft fair, where Fisher sells clothing she makes by hand from alpaca fleece. At the farm, the students were introduced to Fisher’s alpacas, learned how to process alpaca fleece and watched as Fisher spun the fleece into yarn. For a change of pace, Fisher also spun fur from an Angora rabbit. The children also got to see the many products Fisher knits and crochets from her yarns – scarves, shawls, sweaters and hats.At the end of the day, the children were tired but happy to have spent a day on a farm, Fisher said.
