The Double El Conservation District will be conducting a free windbreak design and tree workshop on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Peyton High School commons area, 13885 Bradshaw Road in Peyton. Door prizes and refreshments will be provided.The workshop is sponsored by Double El Conservation District, Simla Natural Resources Conservation Service and Colorado State Forest Service.The workshop is open to anyone interested in successfully growing seedling trees in the area. The workshop will assist with proper species selection, site planning, proper planting procedures and tips to increase the survival and growth of trees. Seedling trees or large container trees are available for Colorado landowners at production costs.The deadline to order the seedling trees is March 15, with delivery in Simla, Colo., April 5. The seedling trees are supplied by the Colorado State Forest Service. This program is available to anyone who owns one or more acres of land in Colorado. The trees are to be used for conservation purposes such as windbreaks, wildlife habitats, erosion control, reforestation, noise and dust control, etc. Deciduous trees are available in bareroot stock of 25 per bundle at a cost of $26 per bundle (15 deciduous shrub species and 11 tall deciduous trees). Conifers are in regular potted stock of 30 per box at a cost of $75.60 per box ( eight conifer species) and small potted stock of 50 per box at a cost of $75 per box (seven conifer species).The deadline to order large container trees is Feb. 28, with delivery in Simla April 5. (There are no restrictions or ownership requirements for this program.) Trees are available in 1 gallon to 5 gallon containers. Price is per tree, ranging from $9 to $41. There are six evergreen species (Rocky Mountain Junipers, Colorado Blue Spruce, Wichita Blue Juniper, Austrian Pine, Ponderosa Pine and Scotch Pine); five tall deciduous species (Autumn Blaze Maple, Honeylocust, Greenspire Linden, Cottonless Cottonwood, Hackberry); and nine fruit tree species (Canadian Red Chokecherry, Elberta Peach, Haralred Apple, Bartlett Pear, Concord and Himrod grape, Cherry Tree or Black Plum).
