Prior to its regular meeting in June, the Woodmen Hills Metropolitan Districtís board of directors held an executive session to discuss several items. No action was taken at that time.During the public portion of the meeting, Lisa Peterson, district administrative director, recognized the efforts of the district staff and board members who contributed to the Black Forest fire relief efforts. She said the district offered evacuees the use of the showers at the recreation center. Gene Cozzolino, water and wastewater director, said the district also provided water to fire departments that requested it, and allowed evacuees staying in the Walmart parking lot to dump their waste into the districtís system. The board unanimously approved preliminary plans for an upgrade to the wastewater plant. Keith Moulton, president, provided background information to attendees and said the district has been under a cease and desist order for the wastewater plant. Moulton said the approval would allow the engineer to begin working and pricing the necessary upgrade, which will be to the existing wastewater site.Moulton also provided an update on a sewer line the district is in the process of constructing, which will service the new 7-11 being built west of Meridian Road. Cozzolino said the district has obtained the easement for the sewer line, which will run from the 7-11 south to Woodmen Road.Eddie Avedikian, parks and recreation director, updated the board on staff activities. He said they have been working on xeriscaping certain parts of the district to save money on water.Avedikian said he and his staff have been dealing with vandalism at Balcon Park. To mitigate the problem, he is looking into the cost of installing cameras at the park, which seems to be a hot spot for vandalism. The district has made an offer to a candidate for the programs and activities director position, and Avedikian said he expects a decision any time.Jan Pizzi, treasurer, said the district is operating within the budget approved for the year. Moulton said he was impressed that all enterprises are currently operating ìin the black.îThe next regular board meeting is July 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Woodmen Hills Community Center West.
