“Weight of the Nation” film screening

Attend a free health expo and get a sneak peek of HBOís ìThe Weight of the Nation,î an upcoming four-part series on obesity in the United States. This sneak peak features case studies and interviews with leading experts as well as individuals and families struggling with obesity. In El Paso County, an estimated 58.3 percent of adults were either overweight or obese in 2009-2010. Statewide, one in four children between the ages of 2 to 14 was overweight or obese in 2010.The event will be held April 27 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Centennial Hall, 200 S. Cascade Ave., in Colorado Springs. Free parking will be provided in the garage next to Centennial Hall.HBO and Kaiser Permanente, in partnership with El Paso County Public Healthís Healthy Community Collaborative, will host the advanced screening of Part Four of “The Weight of the Nation” at the April 27 event. The series signals the launch of what promises to be one of the most far-reaching national public health campaigns on obesity to date. Kaiser Permanente has provided funding to support this series and the public health campaign to follow. Other partners include the Institute of Medicine, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health and the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation.Immediately following the screening, community members will be invited to participate in a town hall meeting, featuring a panel of local experts, to engage the community in a dialogue about how to improve healthy eating habits and active living.
