Falcon Snap Fitness is conducting a free fitness study beginning June 1. They are looking for candidates who want to improve their health but find it hard to get into an exercise routine. The study is limited to 50 volunteers who will participate, under staff supervision, in a moderate exercise program three times a week for three weeks. “The intent is to measure the effects of regular exercise, with the goal of improving blood pressure and resting heart rate and reducing body fat and weight,” said Jackie Macfarlane, Snap Fitness owner. Results of the local study will be combined with participants in other towns and cities across the country to demonstrate the impact regular physical activity can have on personal health.Participants will be led through a series of strength-building, muscle-toning exercises, using Snap Fitness’ state-of-the-art circuit-training equipment. Also included are calorie-burning cardio sessions on treadmills, stationary bikes and steppers. Blood pressure, body fat and resting heart rates will be measured regularly, with a “before” and “after” summary provided at the end of the program.”Our study is intended to show our community the improvement that’s possible in just three weeks and to inspire others to get going as well,” Macfarlane said.Volunteers must be between age 22 and 75 and not exercising on a regular basis. Participants must agree to attend all nine training sessions and agree to a supervised fitness profile at the beginning and end of the program.Volunteers do not have to be Snap Fitness members nor are they required to join. There is a $20 deposit that is refunded if the study is completed. Individual results will be kept confidential, only grouped results will be reported on a club basis.Snap Fitness is located at 7360 McLaughlin Road in Falcon. To confirm eligibility for the study and enroll, call 719-622-6601 or e-mail the club at falcon@snapfitness.com.
