Dave Kranz, history teacher for Falcon High School, has spent the last six years dedicating his after-school time to coaching baseball. He knows the sport.Kranz played baseball in high school, and he lettered in baseball all four years at the University of Wisconsin at River Falls.ìBaseball and life are a lot alike,î he said. ìMany people find baseball boring because they donít pay attention to the small details; many people find their lives boring for the same reason.îKranz has taught at Falcon High School for six years, three were spent in special education, and today he teaches history. ìI come to school everyday to learn, just like the rest of the kids do,î Kranz said.Besides his love for teaching, he loves baseball. Kranz also coached the baseball team at Peyton High School for three years and spent two years coaching baseball at a high school in Minnesota.ìBaseball has always been my favorite sport,î Kranz said. ìI enjoy the coaches and the players. I just have a love for the game. He said he believes the most important part of playing baseball is respecting and appreciating the game and learning from it. Being a good student is an important part of being a good baseball player. ìIn my opinion the biggest achievement was when I coached at Peyton, and our baseball team had the highest GPA in the entire state of Colorado,î Kranz said.During his many years as a coach, it hasnít always been about sunny skies.ìI remember one year we only won one game, and it was the very last game of the season,î he said. Kranz also said the weather is often challenging to the baseball season. ìI really wish that we played in the fall,î he said. When Kranz isnít coaching or teaching, he is spending time with his wife and 1-year-old son, riding horses and reading books about history. The first varsity baseball game was March 10 (after the NFH deadline). Kranz is looking forward to the season. ìAs we like to say, this is the year of the Falcons,î he said. ìWe expect a lot of things from our kids; we spend a lot of time together, so only good things can happen.î
