On Nov.19, Adam and Shawna Shapiro of Black Forest Meadery and Shapiro Family Farms held their fifth annual Turkey Daze. The event took place at the Meaderyís tasting room in Black Forest and drew customers from across the Front Range. Patrons picked up pre-ordered turkeys and sampled the Meaderyís wines and ciders. The Shapiros started Turkey Daze in 2011 as a way for their sons, Daniel and Gregory, to distribute their freshly processed turkeys for the holidays. Daniel and Gregory are both members of 4-H, and raise Bourbon Red and Royal Palm turkeys.ìThe kidsí turkeys are all free range ñ- they (turkeys) get to roam around our acreage all day,î Shawna Shapiro said. ìOur turkeys are high quality, and many of our customers order a turkey from us every year.îIn addition to Turkey Daze, the Shapiros plan to hold more seasonal events at the Meadery in the future. They are considering specials for St. Patrickís Day and Easter. For more information or to join the Meaderyís email list, call 719-495-7340.The Black Forest Meadery is located at 6420, Unit A, Burrows Road in Black Forest. The new tasting room was opened in April and is located at 6755 Shoup Road. Tasting room hours are Thursday through Sunday, from 12 to 7 p.m. and by appointment.
