Treecycle 2006

‘Tis the season to be environmentally responsible, and support your community by turning your Christmas tree into mulch, which also helps sustain youth sports programs in Colorado Springs. The following agencies are teaming up again this year to provide opportunities to recycle Christmas trees: El Paso County’s environmental services, parks, transportation and fleet management departments; Colorado Springs Utilities; Colorado Springs Parks and Recreation; Waste Management of Colorado Springs and El Pomar Youth Sports Foundation.Last season, 3,420 trees were recycled, a fraction of the trees sold. In an effort to increase that amount, two additional sites have been added, bringing the total to seven in Colorado Springs and El Paso County. The trees are ground into mulch, which is made available free of change at all seven sites to any resident of El Paso County on a self-service basis, while supplies last. There is a suggested tax-deductible donation of $5 per tree, which goes to support youth sports programs throughout the county. The program will be available two weekends: Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, and Jan. 7 and 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the following seven locations:Baptist Road Trailhead – Baptist Road and Old Denver RoadCottonwood Creek Park – Dublin Blvd and Montarbor DriveMCI – 30th Street and Garden of the GodsMemorial Park – Union Blvd and Pikes Peak AvenueSky Sox Stadium – Barnes Road and Charlotte ParkwayWillow Springs – Highway 85/87 and Willow Springs RoadRocky Top Resources* – 1755 E.
