Towering problem

Dear Editor,As a resident of Peyton and having attended the commissioners meeting about the cell phone tower to be placed in Peyton, I can say the only advertisement about the meeting was a single sentence in the RanchLand News about a meeting being held in Falcon regarding a cell phone tower in Peyton. Everyone I’ve spoken to in the town of Peyton had no knowledge of a Verizon tower going in, including Verizon customers. Why not have the meeting in Peyton? If you did, then residents would attend. The commissioners claimed that since nobody attended their meeting in Falcon, they would go through with the tower. It is also my understanding that the chosen tower location would still not provide a signal to many residents of Peyton. The commissioners seemed to care more about servicing Falcon than the community of Peyton. Verizon representatives also stated they sent out mailers to all their customers in the area but I spoke to many in Peyton who never received it. I was with Verizon at the time and received no notice. Verizon chose to place the tower in town because of an existing access road and power supply. The property owner will benefit from the use of his property but nobody else in Peyton will receive anything from the tower. There were other locations that would better serve the Peyton community, but Verizon felt it would be too costly to put in access roads and power supplies. I thank Commissioners Darryl Glen and Peggy Littleton who agreed that a meeting should be held in Peyton before moving forward on the vote. However, Commissioners Amy Lathan, Dennis Heize and Sally Clark all wanted to go forward with the vote.David CavanaghPeyton, Colo.
