Letters to the Editor

To the parents and patrons of Falcon School District 49

As the new community relations coordinator for Falcon School District 49, I’d like to offer a challenge to you the parents and patrons in the district on the subject of choice. You have a choice in where you get your information about the district. The question in my opinion becomes, why do so many people (not everyone) get 99.9 percent of their information about D 49 from just one source: the newspaper. Not only is it the primary source for information, but it’s taken as the final word. Keep in mind, as a former journalist I can tell you from experience, there are a number of different angles to a story; it’s all about the details and facts a journalist chooses. Also, if a journalist used only one source for a story, his credibility would be challenged. So, when seeking information, why read only ONE source? With all of that said, here’s my challenge. Make a choice to seek more information about your school district beyond what you read in one publication. My job is to distribute information about the district. Here’s your chance to hold me accountable. Call me personally at the district and fire off some questions. What I don’t understand is why some people head straight for the editorial section of the newspaper, claiming their questions weren’t answered, when they never really asked them. Perhaps this method worked for you in the past because you couldn’t get information from the district. Those days are over. Let me answer your questions personally or visit our Web site where I’ve started posting information about the district, board meetings and what happens at those meetings. And finally, attend a board meeting and witness what’s going on.The choice is yours.Joe ColeCommunity Relations CoordinatorFalcon School District 49719-494-2974joecole@d49.org
