The state of area real estate

By Pete Gawda

People are leaving large cities on both coasts for the rural area of Peyton, including Falcon, even though the median home price in this area is higher than the national median and also higher than the median for the Pikes Peak area, according to the real estate website, Redfin.

Most newcomers are from Miami, followed by Los Angeles and Washington. Rounding out the list in descending order is Dallas, Chicago, Boston, Austin, Seattle, New York and San Diego. Redfin states that only 0.42% of newcomers are from non-metro areas.

According to Redfin, the median sale price of homes in the Peyton area in June was $505,000. The June median sale price for the entire Pikes Peak area was $485,000 according to the Pike Peak Association of Realtors.

Redfin states the Falcon market is somewhat competitive with some homes getting multiple offers. The average homes sell for around list price and stay on the market about 29 days. The average price in the Falcon area is up 3.1% since June of last year.

The median sale price of homes in the entire U.S. in June was $475,674.

The most popular place for people moving away from Peyton is Denver, followed by Fort Collins, according to Redfin. Ironically, while people are leaving Miami to move to Peyton, the third and fourth most popular destinations for people leaving Peyton are Tampa and Sarasota. Orlando comes in at No. 8.

Nationwide, Redfin places Denver at 10th on the list of metro areas people are moving away from.
