Last month, the NFH published an article on the formal complaint against El Paso County Commissioner Douglas Bruce filed by the Falcon Fire Protection District. On Aug. 29, the FFPD received a letter from Jeanne Smith, deputy attorney general, stating that the Colorado attorney general’s office did not find cause to prosecute Bruce. However, the FFPD has formally requested that the investigation be re-opened on the basis that the attorney general’s office did not address all of the allegations against Bruce.Douglas Bruce said he first heard about the request to reopen the investigation when the NFH called to get his comments. His comment: “They want to keep investigating until they get the result they want. It’s a waste of taxpayer money.”The FFPD maintains that Bruce also intervened in the elction by giving false statements and interfering with the election officials’ duties.
