Dear Editor,As a blind resident of Black Forest, most mornings I walk with my guide dog, Mitch, and my pet dog, Sammie, in Wildwood Village. At about 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 25, Sammie was struck by a car whose driver did not slow down, brake or stop.I was holding Sammie’s leash in my right hand and Mitch’s harness in my left. The force of the impact threw us violently into a ditch. Mitch was unhurt, but Sammie was in severe pain. For several minutes, we laid in the ditch in stunned silence. Then I tried to comfort Sammie. Each time I heard a car pass by I stood up and waved vigorously, but no one stopped.Eventually, I heard the sound of a familiar car. It was driven by Derick Charette, who delivers a newspaper for my wife to read every day.Derick asked me if I was OK. He loaded Sammie in his car and drove us home.Sammie had orthopedic surgery for her shattered pelvis. I suffered three cracked ribs and back injuries. With all my heart, I would like to thank Derick for helping us that day.If anyone has any information about this incident, which occurred near the intersection of Vollmer Road and Wind Fall Way, please contact me or Trooper K. J. Hamill of the Colorado State Patrol at 719-635-0385.Joe Morgan719 495-4335jbmorgan@q.com
