Text to 911 now available in El Paso County

Residents in El Paso and Teller counties can now send text messages to 911. In a Feb. 9 press release, the El Paso-Teller County 9-1-1 Authority said 911 text messages can be sent to 911 under the following circumstances:

  • A caller is deaf or hard of hearing, speech impaired or cannot speak
  • Making a voice call could endanger a caller
  • A caller is in a remote location and can only send text messages
  • A voice call fails due to high-volume activity.
The El Paso-Teller County 9-1-1 Authority reminds everyone to text 911 only in an emergency, do not text while driving and ìCall if you can, text if you must.îComplete information about how to send a text to 9-1-1 can be found at: http://elpasoteller911.org/DocumentCenter/Home/View/520Follow FFPD on social mediaFacebook: http://facebook.com/pages/FALCON-FIRE-DEPARTMENTTwitter: @FalconFireDept
