Lake George is just a short drive from Falcon; and, with plentiful opportunities for fishing and boating; hiking and mountain biking; camping and horseback riding, the hour or so trek is worth it.The lake and the many streams in the area attract those who love to fish, and there is ample trout for the avid fishermen or fisherwomen. Eleven-mile state park is a short drive from Lake George – it provides more fishing and boating opportunities. It is also a great place for mountain biking and cross country skiing in the winter months.Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument is also nearby, and a tour of the fossils there are like taking a walk back in time. The park offers many trails and tours that visitors can take to explore the area and view some of the ancient redwood trees preserved there.There are ample lodging choices at Lake George. Campsites range from basic to full RV hookups or cabin rentals. The website for Colorado Come to Life posts a comprehensive listing of the areaís campgrounds and RV parks, or visitors can call the Park County tourism office. A calendar of events is available on the county website as well.Other activities like bird watching, horseback riding and hiking are popular pastimes in the area. The views are spectacular. On a clear day, the mountain range beautifully frames the lake and rolling hills.Traveling in early spring can mean stormy weather, so summer or fall might be a better bet for traveling plans.
