Students score wins during history night at mining museum

The Pikes Peak School of Expeditionary Learning sponsored a history night for fourth, fifth and sixth graders at the Western Museum of Mining and Industry in December. Students from two classes created projects demonstrating their knowledge of history topics covered during the first semester. Students defined their creations to judges, who chose first, second, and third place winners from each class, as well as three honorable mentions.The winners for the fourth and fifth grade crew: Makynzi Galicia – first place; Mikaela Lowry – second place; Justin Martinez – third place; Luke Pring – honorable mention; and Jenneah Lenzini-Oldaker, honorable mention.The winners for the fifth and sixth grade crew were Brayden Sanderson – first place; Christian Yenter – second place; Rachel Reynolds – third place; and David Angier, Timmy Brownand and Devin Dunblazier, honorable mention.The Pikes Peak School of Expeditionary Learning is a public charter school in District 49. Employing collaborative teaching methods and diverse individual learning opportunities, the school endeavors to develop motivated, independently thinking individuals who demonstrate skillful articulation of learning, solid academic achievement, social confidence and service to the community.The western Museum of Mining & Industry is a private, nonprofit organization focused on the history of mining in the American West. The museum, founded in 1970, receives more than 8,000 school children each year, ranging in age from K-12 grade. The museum is located at off Interstate 25 at the Gleneagle exit.
