Stop and smell the flowers

The Falcon Garden Club held its 13th Annual Secret Garden Tour July 19. Three members showed off the results of their gardening skills.Linda Kondris, owner of Pines Edge Suri Alpaca, hosted a tour stop with a demonstration on a pollination wand that helps ìmove things alongî for self-pollinating plants. She had a garden and small greenhouse that held several large tomato plants, kale and a small pond. Guests also visited with her Alpacas.Melody and Arthur Wilson showed off the new paths they created through the garden in their front yard. As the new co-presidents of the Falcon Garden Club, Art Wilson said he hopes to entice more members to participate next year. The Wilsons offered gardening tips and sent guests home with Iris rhizomes to plant in their own gardens. Sharon Stone hosted a tour stop filled with many fruit-bearing trees, including apple, peach, plum, cherry and pear trees.Because of a late frost, only the cherry trees have produced anything. Inside her greenhouse, all the plants were started from seed, which enables her to keep the insects often found on already established plants from infiltrating her greenhouse. Stone provided tips for how to battle burrowing creatures out on the plains and fight against plant-eating bugs.
