Dear Editor:I would highly advise that residents do not use their outside mailboxes (flag up) to mail anything anymore. We put two cards in our box today, put the flag up and discovered that they had been stolen. This happened in broad daylight, and I can even see the box from my office window. The cards were opened and re-deposited into someone else’s mailbox a couple of miles away. Luckily, they had no checks in them. I received a call from the post office about it and they said it is happening frequently. Also, when I brought our mail in I found two letters in my box that were ripped open. They had return addresses from a house a few blocks away. I found out this morning that this person did have a check stolen from one of her envelopes. Someone went along the street and took all the mail in the boxes with the flags up looking for money or checks. We probably would never have known about it if the thief had not put the mail back in someone else’s box.Kelly Jo Salling-Davies
