Director Greg Heule declined to comment at the Nov. 20 Falcon Fire Protection District meeting, where other board members asked for his resignation. He later told The New Falcon Herald that any comments at that point would have likely led to ìunproductiveî verbal exchanges with those calling for him to step down.ìIím disappointed,î he said. ìNever have any of these (citizens or other board members) sat down with me to talk about this. They never called or emailed or asked to meet with me one-on-one. Itís frustrating.îHeule said he is more than willing to discuss what he can with anyone who asks. However, anything specific to the suspension of three chief officers in April and the resulting investigation by Mountain States Employers Council is off limits. Board members are not allowed to publicly discuss personnel matters. ìIím not trying to be evasive, but there are certain things I just cannot discuss,î he said. ìThat is an issue that I canít talk about, no matter how personal the attacks get.îIn reference to the comments about ìgood old boysî at the Nov. 20 meeting, Heule said, ìThe ëgood old boys and girlsí of Falcon Fire have a lot of ownership in this organization. Theyíve put in a tremendous amount of work over the years and should be proud of the work theyíve done. We are, however, not the sleepy little Falcon we used to be. Responsibilities are much greater than they were in the past.î He acknowledged that change is difficult for any organization. ìFor some folks, the way things were done in the past is adequate,î he said. ìThat doesnít mean that people canít continue to grow and learn.îHeule has 32 years of career fire service experience that includes fire officer, fire chief and board member for another fire district. ìIíd like to see the organization go in a particular direction that would be better for the firefighters, the organization and the citizens, but we need to pull together to make it happen,î Heule said.Unity, however, appears elusive. ìThey can stand up and say anything they want. Where is their information coming from? Whereís the proof to support their allegations? Thatís the most frustrating thing to me,î Heule said.He also commented about the presence of a KKTV reporter at the meeting. ìWhy would people who are truly interested in bettering the organization call media to the board meeting unless they wanted to create a spectacle?î he said.When asked about the possibility of being recalled, Heule said, ìI would hate to see resources wasted on a recall.î As for resigning from the board, he said, ìI will not resign. I intend to fulfill the responsibilities I accepted when I was elected. I am dedicated to the organization and feel that what Iím thinking and the direction I want to see the organization go are for the best of the district and its citizens.îHeule would like to see the district get back on track and move forward. ìMy objective is to move us forward and keep us progressing, and providing professional service to our constituents,î he said. ìThatís the impetus behind everything I do or say.î
