Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue will provide $75 castrations per colt, horse and miniature horse stallion age 18 months to 5 years at its ranch on April 12 by appointment only. Ruby Ranch is located near Ramah, Colo., east of Colorado Springs. This is the first of several planned gelding clinics.To make an appointment to geld a stallion, call Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue at 719-541-3642 or send an email to pr@rrhr.net. A deposit is required at the time of scheduling.To be accepted for the low-cost gelding clinic, colts and stallions must be halter trained, groomed and in good health. Both testicles also must be down. Owners with stallions outside those parameters ñ older than 5 years, difficult to handle, with retained testicles ñ should still contact Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue about funding assistance.Alyssa King, DVM, of Kingís Kreatures will be doing the surgery. Wolf tooth removal also will be available for an additional $10 per tooth.Dr. King is providing her services at the gelding clinic for a reduced rate. A grant from the Colorado Unwanted Horse Alliance to Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue is funding the difference. Equine castrations typically cost from $180 to $250, depending on the age of the colt/stallion.Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit that has been caring for abused, neglected, abandoned, and unwanted horses since 1996.
