St. Benedict Catholic Church recently purchased a 35-acre ranch site in Falcon at 12150 Falcon Highway, adjacent to Falcon School District 49ís Falcon Elementary School. The property has a two-story house for offices and ministries and a ranch style home for a future rectory. There is also a large workshop building. The purchase of the land was partially made necessary by the 2008 slump in the economy. In 2007, a land developer donated 15 acres of land on Judge Orr Road at the entrance of what was to be the Santa Fe Springs Development. The parish originally planned to use the utilities infrastructure of development. But when the Santa Fe Springs project went into foreclosure, it would have cost St. Benedictís almost as much to have electricity, water and sewage put in as it would to build a multi-purpose structure. Now, St. Benedict Parish is reviewing plans to determine the best use of the Falcon Highway property. For the time being, the parish will continue to hold an 8:30 a.m. Sunday Mass in the Patriot Learning Center gym ñ 11990 Swingline Road. For more information on St. Benedict Catholic Church, call (719) 495-1426.
