Temperatures are rising and spring sports are winding down. Snow cancellations and delays put off games, matches and meets, but they must go on.With several meets left in track, the Falcons continue to run, throw, sprint and jump their hearts out to qualify for state. Each meet is vital to qualifying for the state competition, and the Falcons never let up, striving to perform at their full potential in every one of their events.Falcon baseball has had its up and downs so far this season. Varsity Head Coach Dale Jackson had this to say when asked about the season, ” Although we are struggling for wins this season, we field a team made up of hard working young men who have made every game close, coming down to a run or two.” Despite the hard work, the Falcons are in the lower third of the Colorado Spring Class 4A Metro Conference, an 11-team conference that has a great deal of parity keeping the Falcons post season play a possibility.Senior Billy Perry has had an amazing season and has led most of the way in all team stats as well as in the state of Colorado Class 4A. The leader board isn’t just filled with upper classmen, however, as freshmen Travis Ewing and Cade Schulze, and sophomore Sloan Soulia are currently atop the Colorado 4A division for batting averages. Coach Jackson also summed up the rest of the season in a few words when he said, ” We are looking forward to the next two weeks and excited to compete with the likes of Pine Creek and Liberty down the stretch.” The season will be capped off when they play District 49 rival Sand Creek at the Sky Sox stadium, an experience of a lifetime for all those involved. Hopefully, the Falcons can pull out a couple wins and keep in the running for post-season play.Tennis and soccer at Sand Creek have had a fair season as well. Soccer had a big tie with Cheyenne Mountain this year after losing 7-0 last season. Tennis has had continued success winning about half their matches collectively as a team. Upcoming competitions for the ladies are Cheyenne Mountain and Pine Creek. A confident senior, Sam Wild, said, ” We plan to have a great rest of the season, the best we’ve done. Hopefully.”In other Falcon news, sports physicals are coming up for next year. They will be held in the high school gymnasium on May 12 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Seniors come in from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.; juniors from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.; sophomores from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and freshman from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $15 and good for the school year 2005-2006 and for anyone who is attending a sports camp over the summer 2005.
